  • Firmware design, coding, test, and documentation for micro controller based products
  • Help develop firmware functional specifications and requirements documentation for new products.
  • Contribute cost estimates and schedules for firmware development tasks.
  • Develop unit and integration test methods to ensure system meets requirement.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of structured firmware processes.
  • Help establish and follow proper firmware design processes for high reliability firmware
  • Analyze and resolve field problems performing root cause analysis and determining effect preventive action(s).
  • Support the work of other engineers on project teams.
  • Participate in technical reviews of the work performed by the group.


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as lead firmware developer, when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.




  • A Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • 5 years’ aggregate Engineering experience (graduate thesis work may be included as experience,) including experience in analysis, design, coding, and testing C code for embedded systems.
  • Extensive experience using Logic Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, and SCM tools (Subversion, etc.).
  • 2 years of experience using modeling tools.
  • Experience using real-time operating systems (ThreadX, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of hardware interfaces.
  • Advanced debugging/troubleshooting techniques.
  • Well versed in static source code analysis tools/methods.
  • Competent user of Visio or other flowcharting tools.
  • Work equally well independently and at the direction of others.
  • Strong critical thinking / problem solving skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.



  • An advanced engineering degree.
  • Experience in developing design documentation (requirements, flowcharts, data flow diagrams, state transition diagrams, etc.)
  • Project estimation/tracking experience.
  • Green Belt Certified or equivalent Quality certification.
  • Experience in the utility industry
